Senior International Property Underwriter (Commercial Property Insurance)

Location: Hybrid role based in the San Francisco or Los Angeles office, with an expectation of being in the office three days per week; some regional travel, including air travel, is required for client and broker meetings.

Base salary: $164,000–$246,000 annually for the Senior Underwriter level.

Commercial insurance business providing insurance-based risk transfer solutions to large and midsized multinational corporations through approximately 50 locations worldwide.

What you will do

• Manage a portfolio of medium to large corporate accounts, including fronted global property programs.
• Analyze and underwrite man-made and natural catastrophe property exposures, technical insurability, coverages, policy terms, and pricing metrics.
• Prepare quotations, structure programs, deploy capacity, and negotiate key terms in line with underwriting guidelines and strategy.
• Use underwriting tools and systems to develop terms and conditions, maintain risk information, and administer accounts.
• Build and maintain a book of business, develop prospects, and represent the business in meetings with clients, brokers, and internal entities.
• Coach less experienced underwriters and lead technical, organizational, market development, or client development projects.

Requirements

• 4–10 years of experience as an underwriter handling medium to large corporate accounts.
• In-depth knowledge of insurance and commercial property underwriting in the West Region of the United States.
• Knowledge of complex shared and layered program structures and 100% single-carrier business.
• Solid experience and understanding of natural catastrophe and man-made risk management and loss prevention.
• Proficiency with underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines.
• Strong broker and client network in the local region.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to handle multiple deals in parallel.
• Strong communication, partnership-building, initiative, accountability, results orientation, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
