Underwriter/Sr. Underwriter (MPL)

Location: Remote - West; San Francisco, California, United States. Other location: New York City.

Base salary: $90,000–$115,000 per year for an Underwriter role; $110,000–$145,000 per year for a Senior Underwriter role.

What you will do

• Underwrite new and renewal miscellaneous professional liability business by evaluating exposures, loss history, financial information, contractual obligations, and other risk characteristics.
• Select, price, structure, and negotiate risks, coverage, limits, terms, conditions, and endorsements.
• Manage and grow a profitable book of business while balancing production, retention, pricing adequacy, and portfolio performance.
• Build broker relationships, develop territory strategies, generate submissions, and support sustainable premium growth.
• Monitor market trends and emerging professional liability exposures, identifying cross-selling and business development opportunities.
• Collaborate with underwriting, product, actuarial, claims, and technology teams to improve risk appetite, workflows, products, and broker experience.

Requirements

• Experience underwriting Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Professional Liability, E&O, or closely related specialty commercial insurance products.
• Strong knowledge of professional liability exposures, coverage forms, policy terms, exclusions, pricing, and risk selection.
• Demonstrated underwriting judgment and the ability to balance growth with profitability.
• Experience developing and managing broker relationships and driving new business opportunities.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Comfort using technology, data, and analytics to improve underwriting decisions and operational efficiency.
