Mechanical Commissioning Engineer (Data Centers)

Location: Full-time, onsite in Memphis, Tennessee or Southaven, Mississippi, with extensive travel to data center construction sites across the United States.

What you will do

• Execute commissioning activities for HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, heat exchangers, piping, hydronic loops, and associated controls.
• Perform functional performance testing, airflow and water-flow verification, system balancing, integrated systems testing, startup, and turnover to operations.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, controls, and process issues during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup.
• Develop and review commissioning procedures, test scripts, checklists, issue logs, as-built records, and final reports.
• Coordinate energization, startup sequences, and integrated validation with construction teams, EPC contractors, OEM vendors, design engineers, and stakeholders.
• Support safety briefings, LOTO and hazard analysis, operations training, constructability reviews, punch-list resolution, and lessons-learned activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or a technical/trade certification in Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC, or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience in HVAC, mechanical commissioning, testing, construction, data centers, power plants, semiconductor facilities, commercial buildings, or industrial environments.
• Ability to work safely in industrial construction environments, follow LOTO, NFPA, OSHA, and company safety protocols, and wear full PPE for extended periods.
• Ability to read and redline mechanical drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, and sequences of operation.
• Willingness to travel extensively, remain onsite for extended periods, and work extended hours, nights, and weekends during critical commissioning windows.
• Ability to climb ladders and stairs, lift up to 50 lbs, and hold a valid driver's license meeting company eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with data center cooling, hyperscale or mission-critical projects, chilled water plants, precision air handling, high-density liquid cooling, refrigerant systems, or advanced heat rejection.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, ASME, IMC, LEED, or Uptime Institute standards.
• Experience with commissioning test equipment, BMS/BAS controls, BACnet, Modbus, LON, and commissioning platforms such as CxPro, Procore, or PlanGrid.
• NEBB, AABC, or equivalent Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing certification; OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with Integrated Systems Testing and Owner's Project Requirements verification.
