Principal Software Development Engineer, Core Transfer Experience (Fintech)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; hybrid with an in-office expectation of at least 50% of the time, typically three days per week.

Salary: $240,000–$300,000 starting base salary annually, plus equity and additional compensation components.

What you will do

• Set the multi-year technical strategy for the Core Transfer Experience domain across core transfer flows, conversational and agentic surfaces, and regional experiences.
• Lead the modernization and re-architecture of high-traffic money transfer systems, including service boundaries, experience layers, and incremental migration paths.
• Establish reliability, latency, quality, observability, SLO, and error-budget standards for customer-facing systems.
• Create architectural foundations for conversational, agentic, and AI-native capabilities while supporting safe experimentation.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers, contribute hands-on code and system analysis, and lead architecture reviews and RFCs.
• Coordinate technical solutions across payments, disbursements, risk, and platform domains.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including large-scale customer-facing distributed systems.
• Expertise in backend service architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, and data models, with experience in mobile using React Native or native technologies and/or web.
• Experience leading modernization or re-architecture of high-traffic production systems through incremental migrations and strangler patterns.
• Experience setting technical strategy across multiple teams and driving architectural decisions across an organization.
• Strong operational experience owning SLOs for systems where downtime affects customers and business outcomes.

• Experience in fintech, payments, or other regulated and trust-critical domains.
• Experience with conversational, agentic, or AI-native product experiences.
• Experience with experimentation platforms, conversion optimization, and globally localized products.
• Engineering community contributions through publications, talks, open source, or tooling.
