Controller (Nonprofit Accounting)

Location: Remote, US-based only; availability required from 9AM–5PM Eastern Time

hirify.global is a nonprofit education technology organization operating an online reading program for grades 3–12, used by teachers in more than 90,000 American schools.

What you will do

• Own the month-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial statement preparation, targeting completion within 10 business days.
• Oversee general ledger management, net asset and fund accounting, revenue recognition, chart of accounts maintenance, and functional expense allocation.
• Execute treasury operations, including bank transfers, daily cash positioning, payroll and benefits debits, positive pay, and fraud-prevention controls.
• Oversee tax compliance, audit coordination, vendor management, grants compliance, donor reporting, and debt covenant monitoring.
• Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, support budgeting and procurement, and contribute to Salesforce–Intacct and sales tax automation initiatives.
• Manage and develop the Finance & Accounting Coordinator and Accounts Receivable Coordinator while reviewing team deliverables.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA is desirable.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of accounting operations, GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience with multiple revenue streams, such as SaaS subscriptions, professional services, grants, or manufacturing cost accounting.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or a comparable ERP system is preferred.
• Must be US-based and available to work from 9AM–5PM Eastern Time.

Nice to have

• Nonprofit accounting experience, including grant compliance, restricted funds, and audit support.
• Experience in edtech, online publishing, or software.
