Technical Writer - Automotive/Mechanical (Automotive)

Pay range: $64,500–$103,500 per year

What you will do

• Analyze new products and design changes to identify technical manual requirements.
• Translate mechanical, vehicle, and engineering information into clear instructions for operation, maintenance, assembly, disassembly, and repair.
• Develop and revise operation manuals, service manuals, kit instructions, bulletins, and electronic technical publications.
• Collaborate with engineering, validation, training, service, marketing, suppliers, and other stakeholders to gather and validate technical information.
• Read engineering drawings, models, bills of material, and manufacturing documentation.
• Upload manuals into Windchill, create Change Notices, coordinate proofing, and release documentation to Online Express.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Professional experience with automotive, vehicle, heavy equipment, military vehicle, or related mechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, components, maintenance, repair, and assembly/disassembly.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong analytical, organizational, and spatial skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and other web-based software applications.

Nice to have

• Experience with engineering repositories, technical authoring software, or illustration software.
• Prior technical writing experience.
