Senior Database Administrator (AWS)

Location: Must reside in CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, TX, VA, or WV; applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. Candidates local to the DMV area may be required to follow a hybrid schedule. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Suitability/Public Trust security clearance is required.

Salary: $150,000–$165,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Administer MySQL and PostgreSQL databases running on Amazon RDS and Aurora in AWS.
• Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and patch database instances, including RDS Parameter Groups and Option Groups.
• Manage database security, IAM authentication, VPC security groups, user permissions, encryption, and SSL/TLS.
• Develop and maintain database objects, optimize performance, and tune PostgreSQL Vacuum and MySQL Buffer Pool settings.
• Manage backup strategies, database lifecycle management, replication, high availability, and database services.
• Support application teams and stakeholders with change impact analysis, sizing recommendations, capacity projections, and database migrations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, engineering, mathematics, or science, or equivalent relevant experience.
• At least 15 years of relevant experience in enterprise database administration.
• Expertise in MySQL 5.7/8.0 and/or PostgreSQL 12–16, with significant Amazon RDS or Aurora experience.
• Deep understanding of Linux-based database environments, open-source database internals, Database Lifecycle Management, data scrubbing, masking, comparison, and review.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure, database authentication security, and enterprise database operations.
• U.S. work authorization and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Suitability/Public Trust Background Clearance.

Nice to have

• PostgreSQL extensions such as PostGIS and pg_stat_statements, or MySQL storage engines.
• High-availability architectures, RDS Multi-AZ, and Global Databases.
• AWS KMS, AWS DMS, Schema Conversion Tool, EC2, S3, and Migration Services.
• DevOps tools including Git, Ansible Tower, Artifactory, and Jenkins.
• Relevant certification and experience with traditional and agile project models.
