Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

Location: Chicago, Illinois; hybrid work. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Salary: $98,300–$145,000 annually if located in Illinois, plus bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Own recurring operational reporting and data processes across financial and HR domains, including daily validation and month-end and year-end close activities.
• Read, analyze, and explain complex SQL involving multi-table logic, nested views, and stored procedures; diagnose discrepancies and make targeted corrections.
• Develop and maintain reports in Power BI and Cognos while supporting legacy Crystal Reports and validating modernized outputs.
• Trace data issues to source systems and coordinate corrections with data engineering, system owners, product managers, and business analysts.
• Prepare confidential reporting deliverables for firm leadership and respond to ad hoc analysis requests.
• Document recurring processes and reduce manual work through automation, query improvements, and process changes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience as a data analyst, reporting analyst, or in a similar role owning recurring operational data processes.
• Expert-level SQL analysis, including complex multi-table logic, nested views, stored procedures, query writing, and safe targeted modifications.
• Experience with recurring financial or operational close cycles, data validation, reconciliation, and correction under hard deadlines.
• Experience handling highly sensitive financial and personnel data with discretion.
• Experience developing reports with at least one enterprise BI platform such as Power BI, Tableau, or Cognos.

Nice to have

• Law firm or professional services experience.
• Familiarity with Elite 3E, Workday, or comparable legal-industry financial and HR systems.
• Experience with Crystal Reports, SSIS or similar ETL frameworks, Databricks, Azure SQL, Confluence, or report platform migrations.
• SQL performance tuning experience, including reading execution plans.
