Senior Structural Engineer (Hydraulic Structure Design)

Location: Folsom, Los Angeles, Walnut Creek, Irvine, or Sacramento, California, United States

Compensation: $125,972–$179,960 for the Greater Sacramento Area or $143,150–$204,500 for the Walnut Creek Area.

What you will do

• Conduct structural analyses, evaluations, designs, and design option studies for hydraulic structures.
• Lead the design of new and rehabilitated dams, spillways, gates, outlet works, diversion structures, retaining walls, cofferdams, floodwalls, foundations, and water conveyance structures.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, design documentation, design criteria, cost estimates, and critical technical reports.
• Perform inspections and structural assessments of existing structures and address unique elements requiring engineering judgment beyond standard code guidance.
• Coordinate structural design with multidisciplinary teams and work independently as a project engineer.
• Review design assumptions, calculations, load cases, code compliance, and design standards, while providing oversight and mentorship to junior staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• At least 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience with design calculations and layouts, gravity and lateral analysis, and design detailing in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar analytical software.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, preferably with a structural emphasis.
• Strong finite element modeling background.
• Experience with SAP2000, LPILE, or equivalent advanced analysis tools, including dynamic response spectrum or seismic time-history analysis.
