TL;DR
Controls and Application Engineer (Industrial Controls): Developing PLC control panel solutions, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts with an accent on hardware selection, PLC/HMI programming, and industrial product applications. Focus on sizing valve, flow, temperature, pressure, and level products, configuring control hardware, and coordinating technical projects with customers, vendors, and sales teams.

Location: Clinton Township, Michigan, United States; onsite role with up to 30% travel and occasional overnight travel.

What you will do

  • Create estimates, proposals, reports, quotes, and orders from designs, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Design electrical schematics, detailed wiring diagrams, PLC control panels, and panel layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Select and configure hardware components, field devices, and industrial control products.
  • Program PLC and HMI systems and configure hardware settings.
  • Read P&ID drawings and customer specifications to size and select valve, flow, temperature, pressure, and level products.
  • Provide technical guidance, communicate project development, identify sales opportunities, and resolve customer and vendor issues.

Requirements

  • Entry-level engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in engineering, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar software, plus competency with Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and bid specifications, analyze customer needs, and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 30%.
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for up to eight hours in a fabrication shop or distribution center environment.

Nice to have

  • Previous technical experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of NEC, UL control panel, and hazardous location standards.
