Infrastructure Cloud Architect (Azure)

Location: Chicago, Illinois; hybrid work

Salary: $161,400–$200,000 per year in Illinois, plus bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Provide hands-on technical leadership for complex Azure infrastructure architecture, implementation, automation, deployment, troubleshooting, and support.
• Design and improve hybrid cloud foundations covering VNets, hub-and-spoke networking, routing, DNS, ExpressRoute, VPNs, private endpoints, firewalls, load balancing, identity, and landing zones.
• Define and enforce cloud reference architectures, security controls, resiliency standards, governance frameworks, operational models, and cost optimization practices.
• Drive Infrastructure as Code, automation, platform engineering, self-service infrastructure, and repeatable deployment patterns.
• Partner with Infrastructure, Security, Data/AI, Business Applications, Modern Work/M365, Operations, and engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable, compliant, and supportable solutions.
• Serve as a senior escalation point during on-call rotations, leading incident response, root cause analysis, disaster recovery, and resiliency improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of progressive IT infrastructure experience and 5 years of hands-on Microsoft Azure infrastructure experience.
• Deep experience with Azure networking, hybrid connectivity, identity, security, compute, storage, governance, monitoring, automation, and production operations.
• Practical Infrastructure as Code and automation experience with Bicep, Terraform, ARM templates, PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar tools.
• Experience developing architecture standards, reference architectures, governance frameworks, operational practices, and implementation roadmaps.
• Strong communication, consulting, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills, including the ability to influence without direct authority.

Nice to have

• Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or Azure Security Engineer Associate.
• Experience with Azure VMware Solution, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Container Apps, Docker, or other container and virtualization platforms.
• Knowledge of platform engineering, DevOps, CI/CD, GitOps, Azure Well-Architected Framework, Cloud Adoption Framework, landing zones, FinOps, or cloud operating models.
• Experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform, regulated industries, vendor evaluation, or technology roadmaps.
