Senior Java Engineer (DBaaS Platform)

Location: Bratislava, Slovakia

Base salary: EUR 3,800–6,300 per month for a full-time role, plus performance-based variable compensation and location-specific benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain services that form the Database as a Service platform across private and public cloud environments.
• Improve a large existing Java codebase through incremental refactoring and modernization.
• Design and implement new capabilities, including migration toward Spring Boot-based services.
• Own selected features from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and operation.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and agile delivery.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to the production support rotation while collaborating with database engineers and other teams.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Java backend development and RESTful service design.
• Experience working with large, complex codebases and performing incremental refactoring and modernization.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, clean code practices, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, and Docker.
• Professional proficiency in English.
• Clear communication and effective collaboration across teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spring Boot and modernization of legacy Java applications.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Oracle.
• Knowledge of resiliency, retries, asynchronous processing, messaging, or event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
