Lead EHSS Engineer (Pharma)

Location: On-site 100% of the time in Silver Spring, Maryland or Durham, North Carolina, United States; up to 10% travel to other company locations, conferences, or training.

Salary: $105,500–$150,000 per year.

What you will do

• Establish and maintain corporate EHSS and social responsibility management systems aligned with company mission and values.
• Support new construction, expansion, engineering design, and process projects by assessing EHSS impacts and participating in owner, architect, and contractor meetings.
• Lead environmental compliance and sustainability programs covering air, water, hazardous waste, materials management, and chemical reporting.
• Oversee water use and discharge controls, permits, agency notifications, monitoring, sampling, reporting, and records retention.
• Oversee chemical and biological waste management, pollution prevention, manifests, inspections, and environmental reporting.
• Develop engineering controls and safety protocols for biological, chemical, high-potent compound, energy, flammable liquid, fall protection, contractor, and temporary worker hazards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or environmental engineering.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical, life sciences, or chemical engineering environments.
• 6+ years of EHSS experience supporting major expansion projects.
• Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and auditing EHSS management systems.
• Project management skills with strong attention to detail, timelines, and results.
• Ability to develop and sustain a strong EHS culture with integrity and alignment to EHS values.

Nice to have

• Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist certification.
• Experience in an FDA-regulated environment.
