Desktop Administrator (macOS)

Location: Full-time onsite at the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, United States

What you will do

• Support approximately 700 users with desktop system and application issues through ticketing, phone, and in-person channels.
• Image, provision, deploy, upgrade, and maintain Windows and Mac endpoints, software, and hardware.
• Assist with patch management and remediate vulnerabilities identified by the security team.
• Support macOS integration with Active Directory, network storage using SMB and NFS, and internal and external sites.
• Install, configure, and maintain mobile devices through Mobile Device Management software.
• Prepare retired computers for surplus and maintain clear technical documentation.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of relevant experience.
• High School Diploma/GED with technical training or certifications, or equivalent experience.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, along with strong communication, documentation, and customer service skills.
• Experience with Unix command-line tools including filesystem navigation, SSH, rsync, chown, and chmod.
• Understanding of Apple technologies, including packages, Installer, Device Enrollment Program, Apple Business Manager, Volume Purchase Program, Xcode, and command-line tool deployment.
• Enterprise experience with Active Directory and Mac integration, NoMAD, Microsoft Remote Desktop, Office 365, Adobe products, CUPS, and printer deployment.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Jamf Pro or Jamf certifications.
• Apple Certified Support Professional certification.
• Scripting knowledge in Bash or Python.
• Knowledge of Smart Cards and willingness to learn.
