TL;DR
Geologist I/ Environmental Scientist I (Environmental Science): Conducting environmental field investigations, sampling soil, water, sediment, and stormwater, and supporting remediation studies with an accent on field sampling, groundwater monitoring, and environmental data evaluation. Focus on overseeing well installation, operating monitoring equipment, coordinating subcontractors, and preparing technical documentation in challenging outdoor conditions.

Location: Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, United States; local candidates preferred. The role may require travel and fieldwork in remote locations and adverse environmental conditions.

Expected compensation: $56,325–$84,750 per year.

What you will do

  • Plan and develop SOPs, field sampling plans, and baseline documents for remedial investigations, site characterizations, and pre-design investigations.
  • Collect soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, stormwater, and other environmental samples, including during rain events outside normal business hours.
  • Oversee groundwater monitoring well installation and operate field monitoring equipment.
  • Evaluate and tabulate data to support site interpretations, risk assessments, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors while completing daily reports, boring logs, and sample documentation.
  • Work independently on small projects, collaborate on larger projects, and support senior scientists and engineers with client deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, Hydrogeology, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to assess and classify soil and rock samples to determine geologic type.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding fieldwork in rugged terrain, remote locations, and hot or cold temperatures.
  • May require travel; local candidates are preferred.

Nice to have

  • Prior environmental fieldwork experience.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, well diagrams, and boring logs.
