Senior Risk Management Director (Biotech)

Location: Hybrid, with on-site attendance at least 3 days per week in Durham, North Carolina or Silver Spring, Maryland

Salary: $215,000–$260,000 per year, plus eligibility for short-term and long-term incentive programs.

What you will do

• Lead the vision, strategy, and execution of the enterprise risk management function.
• Administer enterprise risk management activities and help business leaders identify and reduce exposures to loss.
• Oversee property, casualty, management liability, clinical trial insurance, and related insurance programs.
• Negotiate insurance coverage, pricing, limits, retentions, deductibles, and service agreements while managing broker and insurer relationships.
• Review leases, business development opportunities, clinical trial agreements, contracts, and other legal documents for contractual risk and insurance compliance.
• Lead organizational resilience and business continuity planning, including plan testing, facility reviews, and loss-prevention recommendations.

Requirements

• 15+ years of risk management and/or commercial insurance experience with a bachelor's degree, or 13+ years with a master's degree in business, finance, or risk management.
• At least 5 years of experience as a functional leader and/or people manager.
• Expertise in commercial insurance coverages, enterprise risk management, and organizational resilience.
• Ability to interpret, explain, and negotiate insurance policy contract language.
• Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and strategic execution skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to present clear risk insights to executives and the Board.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, including global clinical trial risk strategy.
• Deep knowledge of contractual risk and indemnification provisions in life sciences.
• Master's degree, MBA, JD, or equivalent.
• CRM, CPCU, CIC, or ARM certification.
• Safety, loss prevention, and claims experience.
