Preconstruction Manager - Substation Estimating - Michels Power, Inc.

What you will do

• Lead substation preconstruction activities and provide technical oversight throughout project pursuits.
• Act as the primary technical subject matter expert for substation estimating, constructability reviews, and execution planning.
• Prepare and support conceptual, budgetary, and strategic estimates for greenfield substations, brownfield expansions, transmission interconnections, renewable energy projects, battery energy storage facilities, and EPC programs.
• Review drawings, specifications, customer standards, material requirements, labor assumptions, construction methods, and execution plans.
• Identify project risks, constructability challenges, market considerations, and opportunities to improve competitiveness.
• Train, mentor, and coach estimating and preconstruction professionals while improving estimating standards and processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field, plus 10+ years of relevant substation, transmission, distribution, estimating, engineering, project management, or EPC experience; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Strong expertise in utility substation construction, transmission and distribution infrastructure, EPC delivery, renewable interconnections, battery energy storage projects, and power delivery systems.
• Experience with estimate development, estimate validation, constructability reviews, and project pursuit strategies.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, protection and control documents, electrical equipment layouts, and construction work packages.
• Knowledge of construction sequencing, labor productivity, equipment installation, procurement strategies, risk evaluation, and execution methodologies.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and availability to travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

• Experience with estimating software, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, HeavyBid, InEight, or similar platforms.
• Professional Engineer, PMP, CCM, or related industry certification.
