Assistant Underwriter (Financial Lines)

Location: Hybrid, with an expectation to work from the office at least three days per week, based in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia. Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents.

What you will do

• Handle renewals, quotes, endorsements, and broker engagement for the Financial Lines portfolio.
• Create and maintain accurate electronic records according to established processes.
• Modify, update, and process changes across relevant systems, tools, and documents.
• Analyse insurance submissions, exposures, and coverages to support underwriting decisions.
• Prioritise new submissions and identify opportunities with the wider underwriting team.
• Collaborate with outsourced providers to resolve queries and operational issues.

Requirements

• Previous experience in the insurance industry, ideally with exposure to underwriting.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills, including the ability to assess data, exposures, and insurance submissions accurately.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for broker and stakeholder engagement.
• Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency is required.
• Ability to work from the office at least three days per week in Sydney or Melbourne.

Nice to have

• Experience with Financial Lines products such as Directors and Officers, Professional Indemnity, or Crime insurance.
• Current study toward, or willingness to pursue, a Diploma in General Insurance through ANZIIF or a similar qualification.
• Experience collaborating with outsourced or third-party providers.
