Distinguished Principal Engineer - AI Science

Location: San Francisco, United States

Salary: $225,000–$250,000 per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Apply NLP, causal ML, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative AI to real-world financial problems.
• Design rapid experiments and build MVPs for AI-driven product experiences with software engineers, product managers, and designers.
• Lead the technical roadmap for a product area and design end-to-end architectures for data science solutions.
• Build evaluation methodologies for model accuracy, explainability, fairness, and responsible AI compliance.
• Architect reusable pipelines that move research prototypes into stable production services.
• Communicate statistical and algorithmic concepts to senior leadership and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience in data science or machine learning.
• 3+ years as a technical lead, steering data science initiatives or mission-critical ML workflows.
• Expertise in optimization methods and foundational machine learning frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Python, Scala, Java, or R in big data environments, plus strong SQL skills.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, mathematics, operations research, economics, or another quantitative discipline.
