TL;DR
OpenShift / Kubernetes Engineer (DevOps): Building and maintaining Red Hat OpenShift clusters and supporting a GitLab- and Kubernetes-based DevOps platform for biomedical research services with an accent on cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and service-mesh technologies. Focus on migrating legacy development and deployment workflows, integrating GKE and Anthos, and providing on-call support to internal developers.

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States; full-time onsite and/or remote work

hirify.global provides systems and DevOps support for application developers and operations at NCBI, part of the National Library of Medicine within the National Institutes of Health.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain Red Hat OpenShift clusters.
  • Support Kubernetes-based infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Help internal developers transition legacy software development and deployment workflows to the modern DevOps platform.
  • Work with GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, GKE, Anthos, and service-mesh technologies.
  • Provide on-call support to internal developers and other staff.
  • Create processes, procedures, and standard operating procedure documentation.

Requirements

  • In-depth experience building and maintaining Red Hat OpenShift clusters; using OpenShift alone is insufficient.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, GCP cloud services including GKE and Anthos, GitLab CI/CD, and ArgoCD.
  • Good systems debugging skills and comfort with Linux or UNIX command-line environments.
  • Experience with programming or scripting and a general understanding of TCP/IP protocols.
  • BS degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills, customer focus, ownership, and ability to work with users with varying levels of IT knowledge.

Nice to have

  • Service Reliability Engineering, Linux systems administration, automated CI servers, and configuration management experience.
  • Automation with Bash, Ruby, Python, Go, Java, Scala, Rust, C++, or Perl; Puppet is preferred for configuration management.
  • Experience with Git, Docker, monitoring and alerting tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpsGenie, and the TIGK stack.
  • Knowledge of Linux internals, network configuration, attached network storage, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems design.
  • Experience with Confluence, Jira, Microsoft Office, service mesh, GitOps, and Google Anthos.
