Embedded Hardware Engineer (Electro-Optical Systems)

Location: Sarasota, Florida, United States; on-site. Candidates must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR/EAR regulations.

What you will do

• Own embedded hardware development from architecture and component selection through schematic capture, PCB layout, release, and production support.
• Design electronics for real-time video processing, motor control and stabilization, serial communications, and DC/DC power regulation.
• Perform first-article board bring-up, hardware characterization, circuit- and system-level troubleshooting, and design verification.
• Validate digital and video interfaces, including SPI, I²C, UART, RS-232, RS-422, Ethernet, CAN, USB, HDMI, SDI, and LVDS.
• Support EMI/EMC and environmental qualification testing, root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous product improvement.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, service, suppliers, customers, and field teams, including test fixtures and troubleshooting documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on embedded hardware design experience supporting production hardware.
• Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, hardware integration, production support, and high-speed video or serial interfaces.
• Experience with microcontrollers, FPGA-based systems, embedded digital interfaces, power electronics, DC/DC conversion, regulation, sequencing, and protection circuits.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and technical communication skills.
• U.S. Person status under ITAR/EAR regulations is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Altium Designer, brushless motor control, stabilization systems, gyros, encoders, IMUs, or EO/IR imaging systems.
• Exposure to FPGA development, VHDL, Verilog, or embedded firmware development in C.
• Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, or MIL-STD-461 qualification standards.
• Experience with aerospace, defense, airborne, maritime, public safety, or surveillance systems.
• Experience with structured root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
