Software Engineer, Teacher Experience (AI)

Location: Remote or Seattle, WA; candidates must work within the continental United States and be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Salary: $126,900–$162,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop end-to-end features for teachers and students in collaboration with product managers, designers, and curriculum writers.
• Write and maintain production-ready JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and SQL code.
• Prototype and iterate on AI-focused educational products, including evaluating and integrating generative AI models.
• Make technical decisions, lead complex projects, and deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Monitor production systems, deploy updates, triage user issues, and respond to teacher and student inquiries.
• Support knowledge sharing, code reviews, and collaborative engineering practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing and maintaining consumer-grade full-stack web applications.
• Hands-on experience with agentic AI tools and continuous learning of evolving AI development workflows.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and high-scale production applications, including AWS services.
• Technical leadership experience through architectural work, technical direction, or mentoring.
• Ability to independently break down projects, make trade-offs, and communicate progress.
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency, work within the continental United States, a pre-employment background check, and willingness to travel at least twice a year are required.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI-powered products or educational technology.
• Experience creating tools that help students learn to use and learn with large language models.

Hiring process

• Informational interview, followed by an approximately two-hour take-home assignment.
• Virtual interviews with several team members and a final interview.
