Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist (Environmental Safety): Administering environmental compliance, occupational safety, emergency management, and railroad safety programs at the Transportation Technology Center with an accent on hazardous waste, regulatory reporting, inspections, and incident response. Focus on responding to hazardous materials incidents, conducting root-cause investigations, coordinating corrective actions, and delivering EHS training.

Location: Pueblo, Colorado, United States; onsite at the Transportation Technology Center

Salary: $36–$41 per hour

What you will do

  • Administer and continuously improve environmental, occupational safety, emergency management, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Manage SPCC, RCRA, EPCRA, stormwater, industrial wastewater, pollution prevention, and UST/AST compliance activities.
  • Conduct environmental and hazardous waste inspections, audits, incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and trend reviews.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste collection, storage, transportation, recycling, disposal, spill response, cleanup, and reporting.
  • Support OSHA and railroad safety programs, including LOTO, confined space, hot work, PPE, railroad worker protection, and contractor safety.
  • Deliver EHS training and participate in emergency drills, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and mutual aid operations.

Requirements

  • At least five years of relevant environmental, occupational safety, hazardous waste, or EHS experience in an industrial or similarly regulated environment, or a bachelor's degree with two or more years of directly related experience.
  • Working knowledge of RCRA, SPCC, EPCRA, stormwater, industrial wastewater, OSHA, and related regulations.
  • Experience with hazardous materials response and spill management.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, OSHA 10-Hour, and RCRA Hazardous Waste training; forklift and confined-space certification or the ability to obtain them.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic EHS management systems, with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work outdoors, climb ladders, walk uneven terrain, lift up to 50 pounds, participate in emergency response, pass e-RAILSAFE requirements, and complete pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.

Nice to have

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational safety, industrial technology, or a related field.
  • CHMM, CSP, ASP, REM, or similar certification.
  • Experience with FRA, DOT, federal contracts, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, emergency management, or the Incident Command System.
