Staff Software Engineer (React/TypeScript)

Location: United States

Base salary: $200,000–$250,000 per year, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Design and build the charting engine’s rendering primitives, layer system, hit testing, dirty-region rendering, text measurement, drawing tools, and indicator math.
• Own the framework-agnostic core architecture and public API used by React, React Native, and direct consumers.
• Build and maintain the React binding, with a future React Native binding as the mobile app matures.
• Integrate real-time data pipelines and define canvas compositing, layer strategies, and main-thread versus worker-thread boundaries.
• Set rendering standards for 60fps performance, pointer responsiveness, and consistent behavior across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
• Lead architectural reviews and RFCs, mentor engineers, and balance technical debt with feature delivery.

Requirements

• 8+ years of frontend engineering experience building and shipping production systems.
• Production experience with charting libraries, data visualization frameworks, or comparable interactive rendering systems.
• Deep proficiency in TypeScript, React, public API design, and component or binding layers.
• Production Canvas 2D experience, including multi-layer compositing, dirty-region rendering, and text metrics.
• Experience with 60fps real-time rendering, Chrome profiling, frame-budget analysis, Web Workers, SharedArrayBuffer, typed arrays, and Atomics.
• Knowledge of financial markets, OHLCV, tick data, futures conventions, 2D mathematics, visual testing, and cross-team technical leadership.

Nice to have

• Real-time streaming systems, including WebSockets, backpressure, reconnection, and replay.
• React Native, react-native-skia, expo-gl, or JSI experience.
• Order flow, market microstructure, MessagePack, protobuf, WebGL2, WebGPU/WGSL, or Rust/WASM experience.
• PineScript or another charting DSL, and open-source contributions to graphics, charting, or financial libraries.
