Product Development Engineer (Industrial Refrigeration)

Location: Lyndhurst, Virginia, USA; occasional travel to job sites may be required.

What you will do

• Design and develop industrial refrigeration products, systems, components, assemblies, and detailed CAD drawings.
• Evaluate existing products to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, energy efficiency, and cost.
• Support prototype development, testing, validation, field trials, and troubleshooting of manufacturing or field issues.
• Perform calculations involving thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, structural integrity, and refrigeration performance.
• Develop product specifications, bills of materials, technical documentation, and support intellectual property development.
• Manage multiple development projects through production release, coordinating suppliers, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and NPI stage gates.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience, with 3–10+ years of engineering or product development experience.
• Experience in industrial refrigeration, HVAC/R, or process cooling systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and refrigeration engineering principles, refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
• Familiarity with welding, fabrication, assembly, ERP systems, engineering documentation, and applicable IIAR, ASME, ANSI, UL, and safety standards.
• Ability to analyze data, conduct testing, solve complex engineering problems, collaborate cross-functionally, and safely access manufacturing areas and industrial job sites.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license.
• Experience with Autodesk Revit, natural refrigerant systems using ammonia and CO₂, packaged refrigeration systems, or skid-mounted equipment.
• Familiarity with PLC-based control systems, refrigeration automation, product commercialization, and manufacturing scale-up.
