Senior Infrastructure Facets Design Engineer

Location: Remote Flex - North Carolina; virtual work with a few in-office visits each year, depending on distance from the Durham headquarters. Candidates from outside the local area and from states listed on the posting are welcome.

Salary: $107,901.00–$172,642.00 annually, plus potential annual incentive bonus.

What you will do

• Plan, architect, and deliver complex physical and cloud-hosted infrastructure designs across network, compute, storage, telephony, platform, middleware, and database systems.
• Own technology lifecycle management, capacity planning, and performance standards to maintain scalability, resilience, and established SLAs.
• Execute engineering activities including performance tuning, system support, incident and problem resolution, installations, and upgrades.
• Provide expert guidance during complex production incidents and advise IT partners, business stakeholders, service owners, delivery partners, and vendors.
• Develop technical standards, engineering guidelines, procedures, roadmaps, and documentation in partnership with architecture teams and service partners.
• Support licensing and financial planning, present emerging technologies to leadership, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree, or 7+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
• 5+ years of experience in a related field.
• Experience with complex data center infrastructure, networking, operations, and infrastructure architecture.
• Must be able to work within the Remote Flex arrangement, including occasional in-office visits.
• Strong consulting, technical communication, customer service, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Tomcat, Spring Boot, and WebSphere Application Server experience; WebSphere is identified as required in the bonus-points section.
• Experience with Facets.
• Familiarity with AI tools and methods, including Copilot, Claude, Google Gemini, and OpenAI.
• Scripting experience with Perl, Korn shell, Python, and other languages.
