Senior Project Manager / Professional Engineer (Highway Design)

Location: Riverside, California; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. The office is planned to relocate from San Bernardino to Downtown Riverside by October 2026.

Salary: $137,500–$182,500 per year.

What you will do

• Lead highway design and transportation infrastructure projects from planning through final design.
• Establish work plans and staffing, coordinate engineers and technical staff, and manage project phases.
• Prepare design calculations, plans, reports, specifications, proposals, and client communications.
• Coordinate with clients, governing agencies, and Surface Transportation leadership through meetings and design reviews.
• Support business development by tracking opportunities, developing marketing plans, preparing proposals, and delivering presentations.
• Supervise technical development, mentor less experienced professionals, and ensure projects meet schedule, budget, profitability, and quality goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in transportation or highway design.
• Professional Engineer registration in California required.
• At least 10 years of highway design, plan development, or related transportation experience.
• At least 3 years managing multidisciplinary projects, including coordination across disciplines during design and construction.
• Demonstrated business development experience with a track record of securing new project opportunities.
• Experience with MicroStation and/or OpenRoads, Microsoft Office, and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Nice to have

• Experience collaborating with highway design, traffic, bridge, and water resources engineering professionals.
• Ability to coach, mentor, and develop less experienced engineers.
• Working knowledge of Caltrans design and plan standards.
