Senior Professional Engineer, Transportation - Highway Design (Technical Lead)

Location: Hybrid role based in Bloomington or Duluth, Minnesota, with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

Salary: $108,000–$151,000 annually for the Duluth office. The range reflects candidates with 12–20 years of related experience; compensation varies by experience, qualifications, and responsibilities.

What you will do

• Lead geometric design, corridor modeling, and plan development for complex highway and transportation projects from preliminary engineering through final design.
• Establish design standards and provide technical oversight to ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables.
• Coordinate engineers, designers, and technicians across multidisciplinary project teams.
• Prepare and review design calculations, plans, specifications, and quality-control deliverables.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and provide technical guidance and coaching.
• Collaborate with traffic, bridge, water resources, and municipal professionals, clients, and governing agencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; transportation or highway emphasis preferred.
• Professional Engineer registration in Minnesota, or the ability to obtain it.
• At least 10 years of progressive highway design experience, including technical leadership on complex projects.
• Strong experience in geometric design, corridor modeling, and plan development.
• Experience mentoring or providing technical oversight to engineering staff, with strong communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, MicroStation and/or OpenRoads Designer, plus a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice to have

• Experience working with multidisciplinary highway design, traffic, bridge, and water resources teams.
• Working knowledge of MnDOT design and plan standards.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineering professionals.
