Reinsurance Accountant

Location: Hato Rey, Puerto Rico; primarily in the office

What you will do

• Monitor, calculate, bill, and collect reinsurance loss recoverables, resolving billing disputes with reinsurers.
• Calculate, verify, and process ceded premium payments according to treaty and facultative contract terms.
• Reconcile assumed and ceded premium, commission, and loss accounts against reinsurance ledgers and broker statements.
• Prepare journal entries, financial statement inputs, closing materials, and variance analyses for reinsurance assets, liabilities, and income.
• Lead Schedule F preparation and Puerto Rico OCS regulatory filings in accordance with US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles.
• Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, contract reviews, and internal controls over reinsurance processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field.
• Experience with job-related accounting tasks in the property and casualty insurance or reinsurance sector.
• Proven experience preparing Schedule F and navigating Puerto Rico OCS filing requirements.
• Advanced MS Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and complex data manipulation; familiarity with SAP accounting systems.
• Fully bilingual English and Spanish proficiency, written and verbal, is required.
• Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, time-management, customer-service, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills.
