TL;DR

Location: 2102 River Drive, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada; onsite railroad operations with outdoor work in all weather conditions, elevated heights, uneven terrain, and shifts of at least 12 hours.

What you will do

  • Operate locomotives and coordinate the safe movement and placement of railcars.
  • Review operating instructions and communicate with conductors, train crews, supervisors, and customers.
  • Inspect railcars, operate switches, couple and uncouple cars, and perform minor railcar repairs.
  • Use two-way radio and telephone systems to receive and transmit operational information.
  • Monitor surroundings, signals, and suspicious activity while maintaining compliance with railroad safety rules.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, walking over uneven terrain, and operating switch levers.

Requirements

  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency required.
  • High school diploma or GED, CROR Rules qualification, First Aid Level 1 certification, and a BC Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent.
  • At least two years of conductor experience in Canada and certification as a Locomotive Engineer.
  • Certification in the application of Distributed Power Locomotives.
  • Experience troubleshooting locomotive communication loss, mechanical failures, and system failures; knowledge of locomotive gauge readings and locomotive re-sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret Canadian Railway Operating Rules, General Track Bulletins, TGBOs, Daily Operating Bulletins, work orders, and switch lists.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience operating unit trains, including coal trains.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
