TL;DR
Turbine Aerodynamics Design Engineer (Gas Turbine Aerodynamics): Designing and analyzing aerodynamic flow paths, airfoils, exhaust diffusers, and collectors for Solar gas turbines with an accent on performance, durability, manufacturability, and cost. Focus on developing aerodynamic design tools, automating CFD pre- and post-processing, and resolving complex product and field issues across interdisciplinary engineering teams.

Location: San Diego, California; onsite five days a week. Domestic relocation is available. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Target salary: $128,470–$192,710 annually, plus an annual incentive bonus opportunity.

What you will do

  • Design and analyze gas turbine flow paths, airfoils, exhaust diffusers, and collectors.
  • Support new engine programs, core products, uprates, and upgrades.
  • Plan and execute qualification testing and resolve durability, manufacturing, and field issues.
  • Develop analytical tools and software to improve aerodynamic design and predictive capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Design, Heat Transfer, and Performance teams to meet program requirements.
  • Develop and maintain design systems, methods, and engineering tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Several years of relevant gas turbine aerodynamics experience.
  • Current experience with 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D aerodynamic design tools and methods.
  • Proficiency in Python, C, C++, or similar coding tools.
  • Experience working with other design disciplines to develop aerodynamic technologies.
  • Ability to multitask and handle complex engineering challenges efficiently.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Advanced gas turbine aerodynamics experience.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamic technologies for cooled and uncooled turbine blades and nozzles.
  • Experience automating design processes, including CFD pre- and post-processing.
  • Experience with ANSYS CFX, STAR-CCM, and geometry-creation tools such as Creo.
