Senior Software Engineer (Embedded)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; hybrid workplace with a mostly office-based environment. Travel may be required for field tests aboard marine vessels. Relocation is not available.

Annual base salary: €70,500–€96,800, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus plan.

What you will do

• Define and drive the long-term technical vision and architecture for complex systems.
• Design, implement, and enhance software and firmware features.
• Develop software for microcontroller- and processor-based systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
• Participate in architectural discussions and strategic technical decisions.
• Mentor senior engineers and represent engineering in executive-level discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of technical leadership.
• Deep expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and system scalability.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills, including work with JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and protocol analysers.
• Experience overseeing the full software delivery lifecycle, including deployment and monitoring.
• Strong understanding of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and BLE communication protocols.

Nice to have

• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and familiarity with ARM Cortex-M architectures.
• Understanding of low-power and battery-operated embedded system design.
• Experience with embedded security, bootloaders, and firmware update mechanisms.
• Experience with embedded real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
• Recognition as a thought leader in the software engineering community.
