Software Engineer II (Embedded)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; hybrid in-office work is required, including work in engineering labs and occasional field testing. Travel may be required up to 5%.

Annual base salary: €62,500–€85,800, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus. Salary is prorated for part-time arrangements.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and enhance software and firmware features with moderate supervision.
• Develop software for microcontroller- and processor-based systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
• Participate in architectural discussions, technical decision-making, and code reviews.
• Troubleshoot complex software and performance issues and support product validation.
• Maintain technical documentation and assist with manufacturing and field issue investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages and relevant frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers and strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Experience with version control, issue tracking, and collaborative development tools.
• Strong understanding of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and BLE communication protocols.

Nice to have

• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and familiarity with ARM Cortex-M architectures.
• Knowledge of low-power and battery-operated embedded system design.
• Exposure to functional safety standards and secure software development practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, software architecture, and design patterns.
• Experience with embedded real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
