TL;DR
Senior Radiation Effects Engineer II (Aerospace): Develop and maintain radiation hardness assurance for satellite and airborne communication systems with an accent on radiation environment analysis, component testing, upset-rate prediction, and system-level risk management. Focus on analyzing proton, heavy-ion, and total-dose effects, guiding hardware and software radiation tolerance decisions, and shaping product radiation roadmaps.

Location: Austin, Texas, United States
Workplace: On-site
Employment: Full-time
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, certain protected individuals, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under space technology export regulations.

Company

hirify.global develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms.

What you will do

  • Own key elements of the radiation hardness assurance plan for LEO and higher orbits.
  • Simulate radiation environments for different orbits using tools such as OMERE and perform system-level radiation risk analysis.
  • Plan and conduct proton, heavy-ion, and total-dose radiation testing on components and products.
  • Predict upset rates by combining radiation environment simulations with test data.
  • Advise hardware, software, and firmware engineers on radiation-tolerant part selection and practices such as EDAC and watchdog timers.
  • Present design review materials, support customer and executive discussions, contribute to proposals, and mentor the radiation effects team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of experience with space products.
  • Direct experience with radiation effects responsibilities, including analysis, testing, risk management, and product planning.
  • Experience working with automotive and high-volume commercial-grade parts in radiation environments.
  • Good understanding of radiation physics relevant to electronic components.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ray-tracing tools such as FASTRAD.
  • Experience analyzing radiation susceptibility of RF components, including III-V transistors such as GaAs and GaN.
  • SEE analysis and testing experience with FPGAs, processors, RAM, and non-volatile memory.
  • Knowledge of electronic circuit theory, Python scripting, and component test-data databases.

Culture & Benefits

  • Startup environment focused on next-generation space systems.
  • Cross-functional, hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work.
  • Opportunities to collaborate across engineering, business development, customer, and executive groups.
