Sr Scientist, R&D – Packaging Development (Packaging)

Location: Warrendale, Pennsylvania, United States; normal office environment with moderate travel of 30%

Base salary: $89,800–$112,200 per year, plus performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Lead and support packaging projects covering innovation, commercialization, cost savings, and ESG initiatives.
• Act as the packaging lead across cross-functional teams and multiple business units and product categories.
• Understand business needs, design and execute packaging tests, analyze data, document findings, and communicate results.
• Complete packaging testing, qualification, and commercialization in laboratory and production environments.
• Translate research findings into business opportunities and create or update packaging specifications.
• Manage multiple assignments, prioritize timelines, and drive project actions through execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with at least 3 years, or PhD with at least 2 years.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, packaging equipment and materials interaction, and packaging laboratory test methods.
• Experience leading packaging projects from concept through successful commercialization, with ownership of results.
• Understanding of end-to-end commercialization for new product launches and packaging specification systems.
• Strong communication, influencing, problem-solving, leadership, coaching, and prioritization skills.
• Willingness to travel 30% and work in laboratory, production, customer, store, and manufacturing environments as required.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience developing or supporting rigid bottles, closures, and film packaging components.
• Willingness to quickly learn and apply new packaging technologies.
