Material Scientist (Pharmaceutical Materials)

Location: Onsite at the Bristol Myers Squibb Moreton facility in the Wirral, UK. Permanent full-time role, Monday to Friday, with a flexible 35-hour week. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Perform routine and non-routine physical and analytical testing of pharmaceutical raw materials, drug substances, and finished products.
• Support investigational studies using traditional and modern analytical techniques.
• Manage the receipt, storage, dispensing, and disposal of development samples.
• Support the introduction and implementation of new equipment within the functional area.
• Contribute to project teams through protocol feedback, data summaries, initial interpretation, and presentations.
• Maintain accurate documentation, solve analytical challenges, and drive continuous improvement while working with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry.
• Fundamental knowledge of materials science testing for pharmaceutical actives and excipients.
• Strong practical and analytical laboratory skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
• Ability to document work clearly, interpret findings, follow quality systems, and maintain data integrity.
• Good verbal and written communication, collaboration, organisation, and planning skills.
• Ability to work onsite in the Wirral, UK, in a permanent full-time position without visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing and analytical equipment used in materials science or drug product manufacturing.
• Experience with particle size analysis, morphology, BET surface area testing, powder flow, and microscopy.
• Experience using electronic laboratory notebooks and MS Office.
