Staff Engineer, Engineering Tooling & Observability (C++)

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain internal engineering tools for understanding and diagnosing complex software systems.
• Combine logs, telemetry, events, faults, diagnostics, and system state to support investigation and system introspection.
• Develop C++ and Python applications, libraries, services, APIs, and integrations for onboard and distributed systems.
• Build React-based interfaces and interactive visualisations for exploring engineering data and system behaviour.
• Improve developer experience by turning ambiguous engineering problems into practical, reliable tooling.
• Collaborate with software, autonomy, systems, and test engineers while contributing to architecture and technical direction.

Requirements

• Strong modern C++ and Python development experience.
• Experience debugging complex, concurrent, distributed, or component-based software systems.
• Experience designing production-quality software, libraries, services, APIs, or applications.
• Strong Linux development, software architecture, testing, code review, maintainability, and performance skills.
• Experience working with diagnostic data such as logs, telemetry, metrics, events, traces, or faults.
• Experience building tools for software engineers or other technical users, with a product mindset focused on usability and developer experience.

Nice to have

• React, TypeScript, and modern web application development experience.
• Experience with robotics, autonomous systems, embedded systems, or other complex physical systems.
• Experience with interactive data visualisation, time-series data, telemetry, distributed systems, or messaging architectures.
• Systems programming experience with networking, IPC, communication protocols, or desktop engineering applications.
