Attorney

Location: Lansing, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with up to 3 days per week from home after initial in-person training. U.S. work authorization without current or future sponsorship is required.

What you will do

• Analyze complex legal issues, assess potential damages exposure, and develop strategies for resolving disputes.
• Advise on claims against insureds and the company, as well as the propriety of company positions in non-litigation matters.
• Review assigned matters to ensure compliance with obligations to insureds, third parties, regulators, and courts.
• Monitor outside counsel to ensure competent, necessary, and cost-effective representation.
• Provide advice on general corporate matters and communicate relevant legislative, case-law, rule, and regulatory changes.

Requirements

• Law degree and license to practice law.
• Previous legal experience, with insurance or tort law experience preferred.
• Excellent legal, analytical, comprehension, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong negotiation skills across legal, financial, and commercial matters.
• Ability to work effectively with associates at all levels.
• Ability to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
