TL;DR
Senior Embedded Software Engineer - Spacecraft (Aerospace) (C/C++/Python): Developing and integrating flight software for communications satellites, ground stations, and mission operations centers with an accent on embedded systems, spacecraft subsystems, and software-in-the-loop testing. Focus on designing reliable fault-tolerant software, analyzing mission failures, integrating hardware and open-source systems, and validating software throughout the space mission lifecycle.

Location: Westminster, Colorado, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $133,000–$161,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design and implement mission systems connecting satellites, ground stations, and mission operations centers.
  • Develop, test, debug, document, and validate system and flight software.
  • Build software for monitoring, testing, and controlling spacecraft attitude, command and data handling, navigation, thermal, and power subsystems.
  • Define software architecture, requirements, block diagrams, implementation plans, and verification activities.
  • Review code and system designs, analyze efficiency and stability, and assess third-party and open-source software.
  • Support software quality assurance, in-orbit customer support, and collaboration with hardware engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Software or Computer Engineering.
  • At least five years of industry experience in spacecraft software development; a master’s degree may count as two years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing and troubleshooting software and hardware systems in an aerospace context using C, C++, Python, or other languages.
  • Knowledge of space missions, mission design, attitude dynamics, coordinate transformations, spacecraft propulsion, communications, power systems, reliability, redundancy, and fault detection and recovery.
  • Experience with TCP/IP or UDP, software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop development, multithreaded applications, resource management, configuration management, release processes, and continuous integration and testing.
  • Must satisfy U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • CubeSat or SmallSat experience across LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond.
  • Experience with spacecraft instrumentation, subsystems, and test laboratories.
  • Experience with JPL F’, NASA cFS, or other commercial space software frameworks.
  • Ground system software engineering, safety-critical software, team leadership, or network security experience.
