Director Internal Audit (Data and AI)

Location: New York, United States; primarily in the office

Base salary: $180,000–$210,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Define audit strategy for data governance, AI risk management, emerging technologies, and infrastructure activities.
• Lead global assurance plans and execute audits in line with audit methodology and Institute of Internal Auditors’ standards.
• Oversee a global team of auditors, including coaching, talent management, evaluations, hiring, and offshore team oversight.
• Manage relationships with senior stakeholders, including the Chief Data and Digital Officer, and provide insights that improve controls and processes.
• Draft, review, and present audit findings and reports to executive management, steering committees, and working groups.
• Drive the use of data analytics, AI, and automation in audit testing and risk assessment.

Requirements

• 10+ years of assurance experience, ideally in financial services, data governance, risk management, and technology innovation, including 2+ years auditing AI.
• Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, technology, or a related field.
• One recognized certification required, such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CISSP, CISM, CDMP, AAIA, or AAISM.
• Deep experience with data governance, privacy and protection controls, AI/ML risk management, model lifecycle assurance, algorithmic fairness, explainability, data quality, lineage, and integrity.
• Experience auditing AI infrastructure such as AWS Bedrock, Claude, and Palantir, as well as cloud, network, compute, storage, and database infrastructure.
• Proven experience leading diverse teams and multiple large-scale projects in regulated industries.
