Heavy Equipment Technician

Location: So Plainfield, New Jersey, USA; full-time onsite role

Pay range: $27.10–$37.22 per hour, depending on hiring locality.

What you will do

• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, compact equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel and gasoline vehicles, including compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders.
• Service engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, hydraulic systems, brakes, electrical systems, suspension, wheels, tires, and undercarriages.
• Read equipment condition reports and repair orders, clarify defects, and discuss preventive techniques with operators.
• Document work orders, parts usage, labor time, fuel and oil consumption, and fleet maintenance data.
• Analyze oil samples, onboard computer data, and fleet management software information while following safety procedures.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience as a heavy equipment technician.
• Advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components.
• Knowledge and application of OSHA Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, and Fire Protection regulations.
• Mechanical trade school certificate or degree.
• Certificate in electrical diagnostics and applicable ASE certifications.
• Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems; welding or fabrication experience is also relevant.
