Staff Hardware Systems Engineer (Embedded)

Location: Onsite in San Diego, California, United States

Salary: $129,400–$194,000 base salary per year, plus eligible bonus, commission, and equity programs.

What you will do

• Define embedded hardware requirements and specifications based on system-level performance needs.
• Own hardware architecture decisions for complex instrumentation systems.
• Debug embedded system issues, investigate failures, and perform root cause analysis.
• Lead Design Verification Testing, validation planning, technical design reviews, and test reporting.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance to electrical engineering and firmware teams.
• Resolve technical roadblocks and integration issues across subsystems and cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, 6 years with a master’s degree, 3 years with a PhD, or equivalent experience.
• Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is highly preferred.
• Extensive experience with embedded hardware debugging and analysis tools, hands-on embedded system integration, PCA design, signal integrity, and system integration.
• Proven experience with Design Verification Testing and V&V documentation, including validation test plans and reports.
• Strong systems thinking, root cause analysis, technical decision-making, project organization, and written and verbal communication skills.
