TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer II (Communications) (CREO, ruggedized communication systems): Developing and supporting ruggedized speaker microphones, push-to-talk devices, tactical headsets, and electromechanical assemblies with an accent on mechanical design, prototyping, materials, and environmental verification. Focus on tolerance stack-ups, stress modeling, DFM/DFA, CAD documentation, and resolving production issues for mission-critical products.

Location: Carpentersville, Illinois, United States; onsite, full-time

Target base salary: $75,000–$90,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience.

What you will do

  • Develop mechanical design concepts and performance specifications for ruggedized communication products, including speaker microphones, PTT devices, tactical headsets, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings of components and subassemblies using CREO.
  • Perform tolerance stack-ups, stress modeling, material selection, and statistical evaluation of test data.
  • Prototype, test, and iterate designs while supporting mechanical and environmental verification testing for IP, MIL-STD, drop, vibration, and thermal requirements.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, ECNs, specifications, and tooling and component cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and vendors on DFM/DFA, production readiness, corrective actions, and resolution of design or process issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in product development.
  • Proficiency with PTC CREO or similar parametric CAD tools.
  • Strong understanding of plastics, elastomers, die-cast metals, overmolding, and mechanical integration with PCBs.
  • Experience with DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and mechanical verification testing.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment with strong follow-through and communication skills.
