Principal CAD Designer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Provide advanced CAD design and drafting support throughout the product development lifecycle using SolidWorks.
• Create, modify, and maintain 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings, BOM structures, and technical documentation.
• Manage mechanical CAD files, version control, drawing releases, and configuration data in SolidWorks PDM.
• Process ECOs and ECRs and incorporate approved engineering changes into released documentation packages.
• Review designs for accuracy, manufacturability, completeness, and compliance with engineering standards.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams while supporting corrective actions, standardization, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Eligibility to work under U.S. space technology export regulations: U.S. citizenship, U.S. lawful permanent or conditional residency, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
• 7+ years of progressive CAD design and drafting experience in manufacturing, aerospace, engineering, or product development.
• Advanced SolidWorks proficiency, including part modeling, assemblies, and engineering drawing creation.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, mechanical drafting standards, engineering documentation, change control, and configuration management.
• Experience creating and managing BOM structures and interpreting engineering specifications, manufacturing requirements, and technical documentation.
• Experience with drafting or diagramming tools and issue-tracking systems such as DraftSight, Lucidchart, Draw.io, Jira, or equivalents.

Nice to have

• Associate’s degree or technical certification in drafting, design technology, mechanical design, engineering technology, or a related field.
• Experience with ERP or PLM systems such as SAP, Windchill, or ENOVIA.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100 standards.
• Experience with CNC, 3D printing, mechanical assembly, electronic packages, mechanisms, composite structures, aerospace, or automotive electronics design.
