Mechanical Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles, United States; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office

Salary: $100,000–$130,000 annual base salary, excluding additional benefits.

What you will do

• Develop mechanical designs and 3D models for satellite structures, subsystems, and components.
• Perform structural analyses, including finite element analysis and hand calculations, to verify performance and reliability.
• Optimize designs for weight reduction, material selection, manufacturability, and quality.
• Collaborate with electrical, thermal, propulsion, manufacturing, and other teams to integrate satellite systems.
• Participate in assembly, integration, testing, and environmental validation, including vibration, shock, static, and thermal vacuum tests.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, test reports, design-change records, and technical presentations.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status is required to access export-controlled data.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a master’s degree is a plus.
• At least 2 years of experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably in aerospace or satellite engineering.
• Proficiency with CAD software for 3D modeling and drafting, such as NX or SolidWorks.
• Strong knowledge of structural analysis, FEA, hand calculations, GD&T, and aerospace-grade manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of environmental testing procedures and standards for space applications, plus familiarity with ASME, ASTM, and NASA guidelines.
