Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer

Location: Rockville, MD, USA; onsite

Salary: USD 165,000–220,000 yearly

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical discipline scope, budget, workflows, and design execution across projects of varying size and complexity.
• Direct HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping system design, including load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, master planning, equipment selection, and specifications.
• Coordinate with project managers, internal and external stakeholders, manufacturers, vendors, and construction trade partners.
• Prepare design narratives, reports, construction drawing packages, specifications, and field documentation.
• Support construction through RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, progress reports, and resolution of existing-condition issues.
• Drive quality assurance, technical verification, staff development, mentoring, interviews, and advanced mechanical training.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus.
• Minimum 15 years of experience for the Senior Lead position.
• Professional Engineer registration in good standing.
• Expert experience designing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems and performing engineering calculations.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes, plus applicable standards including ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Advanced experience leading field surveys, documenting existing conditions, and supporting field reporting; proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Revit.
• Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, food and beverage, or other advanced technology industries.
• Knowledge of cGMPs and sustainable design credentials or experience, such as LEED or WELL.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams, construction partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Advanced experience troubleshooting mechanical systems.
