TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (HVAC): Designing and delivering HVAC and mechanical building systems for public- and private-sector facilities with an accent on system sizing, energy efficiency, code compliance, and multidisciplinary coordination. Focus on leading mechanical workstreams, performing load calculations and energy modeling, coordinating BIM/Revit deliverables, and mentoring junior engineers.

Location: Empire State Building, New York, New York; onsite at the New York City office

Salary: $149,671.54–$171,053.19 per year

What you will do

  • Plan, design, and deliver HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, transportation, and government facilities.
  • Develop design concepts, perform engineering calculations and HVAC load analyses, size systems, and select equipment.
  • Prepare construction documents, technical specifications, design reports, calculations, and cost estimates.
  • Perform energy modeling, ventilation analyses, life-cycle cost evaluations, and building-code compliance reviews.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs and deliverables with architects, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, clients, agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead mechanical workstreams, support scope and resource planning, resolve design issues, and mentor junior engineers, designers, and BIM/Revit staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • At least 10 years of relevant HVAC and mechanical systems design experience.
  • Experience leading mechanical design tasks or projects and mentoring junior technical staff.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water and heating hot water systems, ventilation and exhaust systems, building automation and controls coordination, and energy-efficient building systems.
  • Proficiency with Revit and BIM-based 3D mechanical modeling, HVAC load calculation and energy modeling software, Microsoft Word and Excel, ASHRAE and NFPA standards, and applicable building, mechanical, and energy codes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with federal, state, municipal, transportation, or other public-sector facility projects.
  • Experience with decarbonization, electrification, net-zero, and high-performance building initiatives.
  • Experience with computational energy analysis, building performance modeling, commissioning support, or Bentley OpenBuildings Designer.
