Field Engineer (Heavy Civil Infrastructure)

Location: New Jersey, USA; New York, USA; Washington, District of Columbia, United States

Salary: $80,000–$125,000 per year ($38–$60 per hour)

Heavy civil infrastructure programs include highways, roads, bridges, bus and rail transit, international airports, and water and wastewater projects.

What you will do

• Monitor construction activities for compliance with plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
• Prepare field reports, progress logs, quantity records, site-condition documentation, and inspection records.
• Support work plans, look-ahead schedules, material and equipment coordination, and field resource planning.
• Perform quality control activities, including inspections, material sampling, and test-result documentation.
• Track installed quantities for progress billing, earned value reporting, and cost tracking; support resolution of field issues and RFIs.
• Contribute to project close-out, punch-list resolution, turnover documentation, and as-built records.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience in field engineering, construction inspection, or field construction management on large, complex heavy-civil infrastructure projects valued above $500 million.
• Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFI processes across traditional and alternative delivery methods.
• Familiarity with project scheduling, quality control, document management, and field documentation platforms.
• Experience with project and construction management software such as Primavera P6, TILOS, MS Project, Bluebeam, RSMeans, Procore, e-Builder, Aconex, or comparable tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, or construction management.
• CCM, EIT, PMP, PE, or AIA certification.
• Experience with survey and layout technology, BIM, 4D scheduling, digital as-built tools, or dashboard and KPI reporting software.
