Senior Architect/Spec Writer

Location: Empire State Building, New York, New York; full-time onsite role.

Salary: $149,671.54–$171,053.19 per year

What you will do

• Prepare, edit, and maintain architectural specifications across CSI Divisions 00–49 for multiple building types and delivery methods.
• Coordinate specifications with drawings and collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants from schematic design through construction documentation.
• Review consultant specifications for coordination, compliance, and integration into project manuals.
• Maintain guide specifications and master sections, including updates for codes, sustainability requirements, and industry practices.
• Research materials, assemblies, products, performance criteria, and construction methods.
• Support QA/QC reviews and respond to specification-related RFIs, addenda, substitutions, and change documentation.

Requirements

• Approximately 15 years of experience as an Architectural Specifications Writer or Technical Architect with a strong specifications focus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proficiency with CSI MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and PageFormat.
• Experience with BSD SpecLink, MasterSpec, or an equivalent specification tool.
• Knowledge of building materials, assemblies, performance criteria, construction methods, and major building codes including IBC and ADA.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, written communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with institutional, commercial, residential, or public-sector projects.
• Exposure to Design-Build or fast-track delivery environments.
• Knowledge of BIM workflows and coordination with Revit-based drawing sets.
• LEED accreditation or sustainability-focused project experience.
• CSI Certified Construction Specifier or CSI Certified Construction Contract Administrator credentials.
