Senior Mechanical Engineer (Life Sciences)

Location: Kansas City, MO, USA; preference for candidates near hirify.global office locations who can work in a hybrid capacity.

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical discipline across projects from site selection and master planning through commissioning and startup.
• Manage mechanical scope, budget, and schedule, and serve as Engineer-of-Record where required.
• Develop and review load calculations, utility assessments, energy models, design reports, code evaluations, equipment specifications, P&IDs, plans, schedules, and installation details.
• Coordinate integrated, constructible designs with clients, architects, engineers, construction managers, vendors, and trade partners.
• Lead field surveys, identify non-compliant conditions, and provide construction support through RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, and progress reporting.
• Mentor engineers and designers, drive quality assurance, and support master planning, proposals, task planning, and project scheduling.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or mechanically focused Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• PE license in good standing.
• At least 15 years of experience for Senior Mechanical Engineer responsibilities; Lead Mechanical Engineer roles require at least 10 years.
• Advanced experience designing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, piping, and plumbing systems.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and building codes.
• Strong coordination skills and willingness to travel for client development, project execution, and training.

Nice to have

• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, or food and beverage environments, including GMP manufacturing.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design credentials or experience.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA standards.
• Experience with Revit plugins, Dynamo, Grasshopper, Rhino, plumbing design, field survey leadership, and internal technical training.
